DH Fest 2024: Call for Proposals

The Critical Digital Humanities Initiative (CDHI) at the University of Toronto invites submissions to DH Fest, our 2024 celebration and showcase on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.  

DH Fest highlights critical DH research and knowledge mobilization. Our program will feature lightning talks from faculty and postdoctoral fellows and posters from graduate and undergraduate researchers. DH Fest will also showcase new work in creative knowledge mobilization, including digital research storytelling and interactive projects developed through the CDHI Accelerator program. 

DH Fest welcomes submissions on any aspect of critical DH research, praxis, and/or community partnerships in the humanities or interpretative social sciences. Possible topics include but are not limited to: 

  • Generative artificial intelligence and machine learning  
  • Knowledge mobilization, including digital storytelling and podcasting  
  • Media archaeology  
  • Multilingual DH  
  • The digital past and present 
  • De/anti/postcolonial DH 
  • Indigeneity, technology, and DH

All faculty, librarians, museum practitioners, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and community partners are encouraged to apply. We welcome submissions from single authors and collaborative teams, including collaborations with students and community partners. 

Session Types 

The conference organizing committee welcomes proposals in the following formats: 

  • Digital Storytelling Presentations: 7-minute lightning presentations submitted by faculty members or faculty-lead research teams; we will screen your storytelling video during the conference. 
  • UX Design for DH Accelerator Project Presentations: 7-minute lightning presentations submitted by research teams that have participated in the UX Design for DH Accelerator program.  
  • Research Lightning Talks: 7-minute lightning presentations of digital research by faculty members, faculty-lead research teams, or postdoctoral fellows. 

Conference Venue and Format 

The conference will be in the vibrant heart of downtown Toronto on the UofT campus. All activities will take place in the William Doo Auditorium (Side A), New College, located at 45 Willcocks Street, Toronto, ON M5S 2H3.

To submit a Digital Storytelling, Accelerator, or Research Lightning Talk, please send the following to the DH Fest Committee at dhn.admin@utoronto.ca.

Deadline for submissions is Friday, 15 March 2024. Decisions will be made by Monday, 25 March 2024.
