CDHI Lightning Lunch: Prototyping DH
Please join us on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 12PM for University of Toronto’s Critical Digital Humanities Initiative’s (CDHI’s) sixth Lightning Lunch of the 2022-2023 academic year featuring a discussion on “Prototyping DH,” examining the need for and essential role of prototyping in DH research and scholarship.
Lightning Lunches are short meetings over lunch featuring the work of three scholars on a theme in current critical digital humanities scholarship. Joining us for this panel are Dr. Sherry Yu, Associate Professor in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media, and the Faculty of Information at University of Toronto, who will share her project, the Digital Ethnic Media Hub (DEMH), a news database prototype that aims to serve as a publicly accessible digital space for an ethnic media directory; Alisha Stranges, Research Manager for the LGBTQ Oral History Digital Collaboratory, who will share her work as Project manager and co-Oral Historian with the Pussy Palace Oral History Project, a collection of stories that documents the history and September 2000 raid of the Pussy Palace; and Dr. Sara Grimes, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto and Director of the Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI) and Semaphore Labs, who will share her research and rationale for the Children and Age-Appropriate Game Design project (2021-present), that includes building a prototype of a new kid’s game following “age-appropriate design” principles.
This event will be virtual. Please register on Zoom.
