The Web Development Assistant will be a member of the Critical Digital Humanities Initiative (CDHI) team, directed by Prof. Elspeth Brown. The Digital Projects Assistant will work directly with the Digital Humanities Developer to provide technical support (e.g. web programming, documentation, design & planning, etc.) for CDHI-supported digital humanities projects.
The DH Developer will work with the successful candidate to develop a work schedule. The Web Development Assistant will receive training and mentoring from the DH Developer. This position is fully remote.
Responsibilities
The Web Development Assistant will work closely with the CDHI’s Digital Humanities Developer to provide support for digital projects. They will assist with writing and reviewing code for web development in a variety of languages, providing documentation (both code-internal and external for project stakeholders), and assisting with the development of code testing. The successful applicant will join web development project meetings with the Digital Humanities Developer and project stakeholders to learn about project requirements and discuss implementation details.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Enrolment in a post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or similar experience
- Knowledge of any of the following languages and web development technologies:
- HTML
- JavaScript
- TypeScript
- CSS
- Node.js
- React.js
- PHP
- WordPress
- SQL
- Experience developing websites, either from scratch or using content management systems like WordPress
- Experience writing technical documentation for code
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed environment
- Strong programming, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Familiarity with Git is an asset

Eligibility: Undergraduate degree students must be enrolled in at least 0.5 FCE (full course equivalent) during the Summer 2023 session. Graduate degree students must be registered for the Summer 2023 session.
